Holiday Breakfasts with Benefits
Happy Hectic Holidays!
For many delicious reasons there’s a lot of focus on holiday foods with an emphasis on festive parties and fancy meals with family and friends.
But, what about breakfast? A houseful of visitors means you’ve got to plan for that meal as well!
As a registered dietitian I love finding yummy and easy ways to serve up the win-win of taste and health and I have found some frozen products that celebrate great flavor and good nutrition.
Veggies Made Great makes fabulous muffins with veggies as the first ingredient. Say what? Yup, how about a cinnamon roll muffin for a breakfast bite that’s made with carrots and zucchini?
Or how about a mid-afternoon “back-from-shopping” “back from running around” I need a healthy snack? Might I suggest a hot chocolate with a Blueberry Oat Muffin from Veggies Made Great? (Would make a fab evening snack too when you crave something a little sweet but – surprise- you’re also eating your vegetables!
Veggies Made Great products are found in the grocer’s freezer section and they’re so easy to prepare. You can either pop them in the oven or use your microwave to heat them up for easy eating. Such a great breakfast solution when the house is busy and buzzing with holiday projects and extra people!
Any chocolate lovers in the house? How about these double chocolate muffins made with carrots and zucchini. So much better for Santa than a plate of cookies!
Add a glass of cold low fat milk OR some vitamin C rich orange juice and you’ve got a nutritious and delicious quick snack or breakfast. There are 4 grams of fiber per double chocolate muffin. Now that’s a gift!!!
MORE HOLIDAY TIPS FOR HEALTHY EATING
Stay Strong! – Enjoy lean protein foods such as chicken, seafood, eggs and the loin cuts of meats to help you feel fuller longer and avoid the temptation to overindulge on all of those sweet holiday goodies. And lean proteins also help keep your blood sugar levels from dipping too low which can cause your energy to fade just when you need it most to keep going to get through those holiday chores. Lean cuts of meat include pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin and steaks such as flank steak.
Stay Hydrated! – Did you know that deydration can cause you to feel tired, cranky and unfocused? That’s not a good look during the happy holiday season. Make sure to drink plenty of water and know that water filled foods such as fruits and vegetables count too!!
Stay Fueled! The holiday hustle and bustle often means skipping meals and depending on grab and go. But, convenience can still deliver the good nutrition found in vegetables added to breakfasts and snacks. No time to cook? No problem. Stay fueled and full with easy options such as egg frittatas and muffins from Veggies Made Great . Veggies are the #1 ingredient!
Just pop them in the microwave to easily and deliciously help increase your vegetable intake.
And of course, these yummy menu additions are perfect partners for New Year’s Resolutions to eat more veggies!
